The Cleaning Routine of Quartz Stones

Cleaning your countertop can be a real hassle, but here’s all you need to handle cleaning, and not raise any eyebrows by judgemental guests.

First, prepare the tools for cleaning: 

1. Mild dish detergent

2. Soft microfiber cloth

3. Glass Cleaner

4. Non-Abrasive Sponge

5. Plastic Putty Knife

6. Degreaser Or Cleaners that remove oil and grease

7. Trivet

8. Cutting board

Timing is everything  

The faster you remove any spills, the better. Something you need to keep an eye on is acidity or alkalinity. Wine, vinegar, lemon juice and other tarty fruits and vegetable have acids that can seep. Granted, they don’t dull quartz the way they do marble, it’s always best to take precautions.

Use mild dish detergent with warm water to quickly wipe up fresh spills. If the spills have dried, then with the power of glass cleaner, a non-abrasive sponge and some elbow grease, rub it out. Remember, quartz is still susceptible to staining.

If your food has congealed and hardened, or maybe your gum, nail polish, paint etc, then use the plastic putty knife to gently scrape it off.

For a thorough clean, at regular intervals use a non-abrasive surface cleaner and let it rest before removing it with a non-abrasive sponge.

Avoid the following:

Ph Extreme cleaners and abrasive surfaces – quartz can take a diluted acidic or alkaline cleaner but oven cleaners (Ph 1) can separate the bonds between quartz stone and resin.

i. Extreme Heat – Trust me, scorch marks or cracks from hot surfaces is your worst nightmare. Save yourself the trouble and use trivets and hot pads.

ii. Cutting On The Counter – I shouldn’t even have to say this,  but it bears repeating. Practice your julienning on a cutting board. Spare your countertop.

iii. The Great Outdoors – Here’s the thing. The resin in quartz is plastic, and when exposed to UV rays from sunlight, your countertop will fade, or worse, warp and split.
